Houston MQG Block of the Month Progress

Hey y’all! I’m excited to share my progress on this years Houston MQG Block of the Month. My amazing friend Marisa is in charge of guild challenges and the BOM this year. She has worked her butt off to provide us with amazing resources and fun throughout the year so far. ๐Ÿ’—

Pink and purple ice dyed fabric paired with metallic linen fabric

Houston MQG Block of the Month Fabric

For my main fabric I enlisted my amazing friend Tina and her ice dying skills. She dyed me 5+ yards of the most beautiful fabric I have ever used in a project! It has the most gorgeous swirls of pink and purple. ๐Ÿ˜

The background fabric is Robert Kaufman Metallic Essex Yarn Dyed Linen in the colorway Sorbet. The Metallic linen does not photograph well at all, because it is super shiny and sparkly in person!

This week I finished all 16 of the blocks and sewed the quilt top together. Now I need to figure out how to quilt this beast. It’s 84″ x 96″ which I love because big oversized quilts are my favorite. I’m in Free Motion Quilting Academy taught by my friend HollyAnne of String & Story, so I need to dive into the lessons for a bit of inspiration.

I’ve done other block of the month projects in the past, but I’m not always great at finishing them, so I am pretty proud of myself that I was able to keep up, and then get ahead with this one. Plus, it helps that the materials I am working with are freaking gorgeous. ๐Ÿ˜

You can follow along with my quilting progress on Instagram, and I’ll of course share more here when it’s done!

Happy Sewing!
