Jolly Bar Meringue with Fat Quarter Shop

I’m so excited to be sharing another amazing Shortcut Quilt pattern by Fat Quarter Shop. Being a busy parent means that my quilting projects get completed in small chunks of time, so I love how quick and easy the FQS Shortcut Quilt patterns are to complete!

The Jolly Bar Meringue quilt is made using two of the 10″x5″ jolly bar precuts, and the Creative Grids 9.5″ Perfect Rectangle Ruler. For my fabrics I used one solid Moda Bella White jolly bar, and one Sweet Marion jolly bar by April Rosenthal. Though the pattern calls for a Jolly bar, it can easily be made using a layer cake or yardage, you’ll just have to do a little bit more cutting.

I love how the pieces come together and it looks way more complicated than it actually is. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I gave myself permission to not worry too much about how the points of my half rectangles line up, some were great and others not so much! For the quilting I pulled inspiration from one of the fabric prints and used the serpentine stitch on my Janome 8900 to stitch a grid. It’s a stitch I’ve never used before and the result turned out really fun with a super fluffy texture. As always my quilting and piecing was done using Aurifil 50wt thread, this time in color 2600 Dove.

Normally I just add these quilts to my pile of finished quilts, but this time I decided to gift it to my friend’s daughter Ella. โค She’s the cutest little girl and since she lives in the frozen north (aka Maine) she for sure needed this sweet little quilt to stay warm all winter! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Have you made on of the FQS Shortcut quilts yet?
