Today I wanted to revisit a quilt I made 2 years ago for my little niece Cordelia. ❤ I’ve been in a bit of a quilty funk recently, so I’ve been looking back at some of my past projects for a pick-me-up and inspiration.
I made this right before she was born in February of 2016. I used the Patchwork Dreams quilt pattern from Elizabeth Dackson’s book Becoming a Confident Quilter, but I changed it up a bit. Her original pattern has thick sashing between the rows of blocks and I decided to omit them to make a quilt that measures 40″ x 54″ instead of a twin. The perfect size for a crib, but still big enough that little Cordelia won’t out grow it too fast.
I wanted this quilt to have lots of softness & warmth because they live in Pennsylvania, so I did a double layer of 100% cotton batting and did minimal straight line quilting.
Using various colors of Aurifil 50 wt & 40 wt thread (1100, 4182, 2530, 5003, 2830, & 2435) I echoed the very center horizontal and vertical seams first, then I echoed the seams of each of the large squares with a coordinating color. I kept my bobbin thread Aurifil 50wt #2309 so that it would blend with the backing fabric.
This is one of the few quilts that I actually remembered to label, and of course she was born early in February of 2016 not March 2016! 😂 I used my printer to print directly on the fabric and then set the ink with my iron prior to washing.
This is a good reminder to label the couple of quilts I’m currently working on for Christmas gifts.
