Grandma’s Lawn Chair Blog Hop & Giveaway

I am excited to introduce y’all to an amazing new PDF quilt pattern called Grandma’s Lawn Chair by Diane at from blank pages. I was over the moon when I got the chance to test this pattern for her. I had an amazing time making it and I am so happy that I was able to help Diane with her very first full-quilt quilt pattern!

Grandma's Lawn Chair Blog Hop @ from blank pages...

The pattern is 15 pages long and is loaded with amazing features and diagrams. You have the choice of making 3 different sizes: Baby (33.5″ x 39.5″), Toddler (39.5″ x 45.5″), and Lap (69.5″ x 75.5″). Diane has done a fantastic job making it to where anyone could make this quilt. I would definitely say it is perfect for a confident beginner, and it sews up quite quickly.

Included in the pattern:

  • Table of Contents
  • A few tips regarding the fabric you choose.
  • Cutting instructions for three different quilt sizes: Baby, Toddler, and Lap size.
  • Tips and instructions for using directional prints as well as directional prints for the background fabric.
  • Cutting instructions include how to cut from yardage, as well as how to cut from fat quarters (or fat eights for the baby size).
  • Piecing instructions.
  • Fabric variations and color schemes, as well as a key for cutting if using scraps.
  • LOTS of diagrams
  • Coloring pages for all three sizes so you can play around with your layout before cutting any fabric.
I made the Baby size quilt out of a fat quarter bundle of Pearl Bracelets that I got from Pink Castle Fabrics, and some Kona White for the background. I also backed in in some yardage of Pearl Bracelets that I had on hand.

I love how it turned out, and it has already been gifted to a friend who had a baby last month. Part of me wishes I had kept it because it was so adorable, but the baby size is just that much too small for my growing William ๐Ÿ™‚

The pattern looks pretty complicated but this quilt came together so quickly, that I was able to finish the top in a couple of afternoons. Diane shows you a great way to strip piece your fabric which makes these blocks come together in a matter of hours. I adore the weaving pattern the fabrics create.

The pattern is very well written and easy to follow. Diane even provides a nice little key for abbreviations that occur within the pattern.

Once I got my top finished up, I quilted it with gorgeous Aurifil 50wt thread by echoing the seam lines. This was my first time using my new walking foot for quilting. I don’t know how I ever did anything without that thing.

I think I might like the way the quilting looks on the back more than I do on the front. I can’t wait to make another quilt from this pattern! I think I will make the lap size so I can have a nice quilt for when I am sitting on the couch.

Now time for the fun part! Diane is giving one of my readers a free download of her new pattern. Just use the Rafflecopter widget below for your entries! The giveaway will be open for a whole week and I will notify the winner next Tuesday.

Would I sound too selfish if I say that I would love to keep this one for myself? But truth be told – one of my kids (or grandkids) will most likely try to claim it. kathleen dot lutz at doh dot state dot nj dot us

  35. September 17, 2013 / 11:29 am

What a cute quilt. Looks like a pattern that would go great with lots of different fabrics – but the pearl bracelets were a great choice.
