Earlier I wrote the post about the Berenstain Bears quilt that I made for William a few months ago, but I realized that I had never shared the very first quilt that I made for him.
This is one of the few things that I actually made for William before he was born, and I will always treasure it. I used a pattern I found in one of my old quilting magazines for an I-Spy quilt, so there are two of each print scattered in the blanket. It will be a fun game to play when he gets a tad bit older ๐
Most of the prints are fabrics that I already had in my stash, but I also went and bought several “boy” themed fat quarters to throw in there too. This quilt was the VERY first one I ever made and I didn’t even know about how to use a 1/4″ seam. I just guessed and it caused several spatial issues, but I worked through them and ended up with something adorable!
I really had no idea what to do when it came to actually quilting the completed pieced top. The magazine sadi to quilt diagonal lines across the whole thing. But, since my spacing was all off, quilting diagonal lines through the squares wasn’t going to work.
So I just outline quilted all the squares, and it turned out great plus super sturdy. This thing has been super loved over the past 18 months, and it has been washed a bunch!
I love the bright red star print I used for the backing because it is super bold and fun! Perfect for my little boy ๐
I used rainbow variegated thread to do the quilting, and again my noviceness (not sure if that’s a word) shows through because I used a really tiny stitch so it is hard to see. This quilt was definitely a learning experience.
Being a Texas A&M grad, I had to throw in a few swatches of A&M fabric here and there.
Laughing and getting close to the edge of the bed! Luckily I had a hold of him and scooted him over before he took a nose dive into the carpet.
More peek-a-boo ๐ before bedtime! It makes me so happy that he loves his blanket so much.
Your quilt was so precious!! Thanks for sharing. Also, if you had not said your were a novice… I never would have known! (but, then, I'm NOT a quilter….) Anyway…. it is adorable. It will be something to cherish for years to come.
