Noodlehead Double Zip Wallet

Oh man another blog post already! One thing that this 31 Day Blogging Challenge will do is encourage me to blog about my recent makes instead of just posting a couple pictures on Instagram. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Every year at the beginning of November International Quilt Festival is held in Houston. This is my 5th year attending and 2nd year working at the show. It’s always so much fun and there is lots and lots of shopping to do! One of the booths I visited when I was at Festival was the Pink Door Fabrics booth. I’ve followed them for a while on Instagram and I always love the quilt and bag kits that they put together. One of the kits I purchased was for the Double Zip Wallet pattern from Anna Graham’s book Handmade Style.

Each of the kits that Pink Door Fabrics create include almost everything you need to make the bag, wallet, quilt etc. For this pattern the kit included the main fabric by Anna Maria Horner, the green linen, both zippers, and the magnetic snap. Then I added the pattern/book, interfacing, and zipper pocket lining.

The hibiscus flower in the main print is my absolute favorite so I made sure to fussy cut it on the exterior piece. I constructed the wallet mainly using Aurifil 28wt thread, and then 50wt thread for the edge-stitching & top-stitching on the card slot piece. I like using a heavier weight thread when making bags because I know they’re going to get lots of use and I want them to last.

I was able to construct the wallet in one evening after the kiddos were in bed. Anna’s patterns are always well written and this pattern from her book was no exception. The way the wallet comes together is really interesting as well. At one point in time I thought I had done something wrong but once I turned it right side out, everything looked how it was supposed to!

I’m super happy with how this turned out and would definitely make the pattern again! I think I’d use a slightly heftier interfacing for the exterior to give a bit more body, but other than that I wouldn’t change a thing. ๐Ÿ™‚
