Sallie Tomato Faux Leather Tour

Today I am excited to kick off the Faux Leather Tour hosted by Sallie Tomato Patterns! They recently launched an exclusive line of faux leather fabric. It is a vegan material and a great alternative to leather or cork fabric due to its price point. It’s super soft and pliable, and not difficult to work with at all.

Like all things red, it’s tricky to truly photograph and capture the color of the faux leather. It’s not quite as light as the photo above, and not quite as dark as the photo below. 😂

I made the Ginger Bag pattern using their Cherry Legacy colorway and paired it with Rifle Paper Co linen canvas that I had in my stash. The addition of the rose gold hardware kit and the burgundy + rose gold zippers by the yard added the perfect finishing details to this bag. 😍

I constructed the entire bag using Aurifil 40wt thread in color 2460. It was the perfect match for the Cherry Legacy faux leather and a fun accent to my floral fabric. I started with a regular 80/12 needle but then switched to a jeans 90/14 for sewing all the layers together.

I probably should have ironed my shirt. 😉

Sewing over the faux leather was easier than expected. I’ve sewn other types of vinyl and similar materials in the past, and always had issues with them sticking to the bed of my machine or the presser foot. Not with the Sallie Tomato Faux Leather, it slid through like butter without needing a Teflon foot or taping tissue paper to the machine.

A fun peek at the Rifle Paper Co metallic polka-dot lining fabric and hardware details.

I am so thankful that Jess at Sallie Tomato and her team included me on this amazing tour, and cannot wait to see what everyone else has made with this fabric!

Follow along with the remainder of the tour! ❤
