Seamwork Skipper

Today I am excited to share my finished Seamwork Skipper pullover! The main reason I wanted this pattern when it was released back in January was the name Skipper. I’m a sucker for anything named Skipper because I am a former Jungle Cruise Skipper and once a skip always a skip. 😀

I stitched this sweatershirt together at the end of September in hopes that cooler temps would soon follow. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait too long for that to happen! Today the high in Houston was in the 50s and I was able to snap some pictures without over heating, plus 50 degree weather means the fuzzy boots get pulled out of my closet!

I love how quickly this pattern comes together, I was able to make it in a single evening from start to finish. I constructed the entire thing on my Janome 8900 using Aurifil 40wt thread, and finished the seams using my Singer serger & Aurifil Forty3.

This quilted knit was purchased from Joann’s almost 3 years ago (Here is a similar version). A few months ago I downloaded the SewJourners Stash Shrinker spreadsheet to keep track of my fabric inventory so I pulling from my stash was a necessity for this make; my incoming fabric is much higher than outgoing and I’m trying to fix that ratio. Unfortunately, the one thing I don’t like about this top is that the fabric does not have a ton of stretch so pushing the sleeves up further than mid-forearm is basically impossible. My next version will be made in a stretchier knit.

The simple details really make this pattern a perfect staple piece for my handmade wardrobe. The drop shoulder is cozy, the bands on the sleeves and hem give it a classic sweatshirt vibe, and the over-sized pocket is awesome. My husband thinks the over-sized pocket is ridiculous, but I love the fun detail! Plus my phone fits in the pocket which is perfect for when I pair this top with leggings which I’ll most likely do all the time. 😉

I’ve always had good luck with Seamwork Patterns and I am so glad I subscribe to the online magazine. Next two patterns on my to-make list are the Seamwork Kimmy for my darling friend Erin, and the Seamwork Gabrielle for myself.
