Parasol + Orchid Pattern Collaboration

I recently had the opportunity to pattern test a fun new pattern mash-up for Ensemble Patterns and Chalk & Notch Patterns. The Parasol + Orchid pattern collaboration combines the Parasol Jumpsuit with the Orchid Midi Dress. You can mix and match the bodice and pant or skirt options, and for my version I made the Parasol bodice with the Orchid skirt.

This was a challenging pattern test for me. The bodice construction is not difficult but you can’t rush through it or else you’ll end up with some wonkiness… like I did the first time I stitched it together. 😉 I also encountered some new-to-me techniques when stitching the skirt that presented a fun challenge.

My fabric is a navy linen that I picked up at Jo-Ann’s. I love the color but I found myself wishing for something a bit lighter weight. The linen is a tad bulky with the cross of the bodice, and it definitely needs to soften up a bit. I’m going to try a baking soda soaking tutorial from Maddie Made This and see if that helps the softness.

Overall I do really like this dress, but I’m not sure how often I will wear it because the length hits at a place where I feel like I need to wear heels. And as much as I love heels, I don’t love wearing them everyday. I’m going to try styling it with my go-to nude flats and see how it feels, and for my next version I’ll remove about 2-3 inches from the length. 🙂

Right now you can get both patterns as a bundle for $21 which is a total steal since it’s practically 6+ patterns in one! I’m excited to make another version of each pattern, especially the jumpsuit since my first test didn’t fit my tush (that’s why I’m not sharing any pictures of that one 😉 ). I’ve been feeling really inspired to sew and create recently and I think it’s due in part to being challenged by something new like this pattern!

Be sure to check out all the other amazing versions of the #OrchidxParasol pattern collaboration! I’m definitely dreaming of making the Orchid long sleeved bodice with the parasol pants. 😍
