Today I am excited to share my finished project from Kelly Young’s Stash Statement book! I made a mini quilt using the College Prep pattern from the book. I love the full quilt but sometimes life is crazy and you just have time to make a mini.
Since the 4th of July was only a few days ago, I decided to make my mini in patriotic red, white, & blue. The reds are a combination of several fat quarters that I cut into scraps, the blue is Moda Fabrics grunge, and the white is Robert Kaufman metallic Essex linen.
For my quilting I used Aurifil 50wt thread in 2250 for the red and 2730 for the blue. I left the white area un-quilted so that it would stand out against the other quilted sections.
I love how approachable Kelly’s improv piecing technique is to complete. I normally stray away from improv piecing but her method of combining traditional piecing and improv made my perfectionist heart happy. 🙂 I highly recommend adding this book to your quilting library!
