SewPINK 2025: Zip It Up 2.0

I’m honored to once again join the team at By Annie for their SewPINK 2025 initiative. You can find last year’s SewPINK post HERE. Their mission is to raise awareness for cancer throughout the year. Efforts culminate in an annual blog hop during October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Our goals are to promote self-care, awareness, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer. This year is especially important to me because I am currently fundraising for American Cancer Society’s Team Determination. Next February I will run 19.3 total miles in memory of my Uncle John who passed away from stage 4 colon cancer in 2021.

My SewPINK 2025 Project | Zip It Up 2.0

Since we are bringing awareness to all cancers this year, I chose my fabrics for my project based on the Colorectal Cancer Awareness color of dark blue in honor of my Uncle. Some of my fondest memories visiting him as a kid was admiring all the little tchotchkes he had collected over the years.

He was an avid collector of Donald Duck figurines 🦆 so this blue Disney comic fabric was the perfect choice. And it pairs really well with the dark blue coordinating fabric. 💙 The lining is a simple cream fabric with little dark blue hearts.

The Zip It Up 2.0 gives you the option to make the interior pockets with vinyl or mesh and I decided to make all of mine vinyl. My intent is to use this case to hold cross stitch WIPs. And I know the vinyl will be a better containment option for those supplies. These nonstick needles from Schmetz made stitching through all the layers of this case easy work.

As always, the By Annie patterns are very thorough and set you up for success every time. Zip It Up 2.0 is no exception. And as luck would have it, the parts that I struggled with are the exact parts of the pattern that have video tutorials.

I am so happy with how this case turned out. While making it, I was becoming a little worried about how large it was going to be. But it’s actually perfect.

My SewPINK completed project

My goal is to use this case to hold a few cross stitch WIPs. The interior pockets are perfect for my active project. And the exterior pockets are where I can keep a couple backup projects. Because sometimes you need to switch up what you’re working on. 😏

What’s Next?

I hope you enjoy my project for SewPINK 2025 and that you’re inspired to try a By Annie project for yourself.

Cancer has touched us all in some way. In fact, one in three people is diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Together we can fight back; together we can conquer this disease. Don’t skip your yearly screenings, the best cancer prevention is getting screened. ✨

I had no idea of the color for colorectal cancer. My son was diagnosed with a rectal tumor in June when he was 34. They have assured us that it is treatable, and he is going thru chemo and radiation now. It had already spread so he is stage 4. I made him some port pillows. Need to do something else now right! Thanks for the time and energy to blog!
