The Snowflake Quilt

In my recent post I mentioned that I already have four quilty finishes for the year, and this Snowflake Quilt was one of the first ones. For those of y’all that are new here. I live in Southeast Texas so the chance of having snow in the winter is quite slim. However, mother nature decided to grace us with a snow day this year.

As I heard that Winter Storm Enzo was heading our way I pulled out my Snowflake Quilt UFO and got to work. Thankfully, I did not have much to do in order to complete it. The quilt top was originally pieced back in 2019-ish. I know it was pre-pandemic. Then we bought a house and moved in 2020, so it was packed away with every thing else.

The pattern is the Snowflake Quilt by Modern Handcraft. Nicole makes amazing quilt patterns, and this pattern is no exception. The fabric is Tinsel by Cotton and Steel back in 2015 before they were Ruby Star Society. To quickly make the backing I used a flannel sheet that I bought on clearance at the end of last year.

The quilting is a simple grid that I did with Aurifil 50wt thread in a pale teal color. Grid quilting is my go to when I need something quick, plus it’s easy to do on simple patchwork. These pictures really show it off well.

We bundled up in all of our cold weather clothes and had a wonderful day playing in the snow, snapping these quilty pictures, and enjoying time together. It’s always nice when mother nature surprises us with a winter wonderland, as long as we don’t lose power.
