Here is how I make my version of my Mom’s delicious spaghetti ๐
1. Finely dice 3-4 cloves of garlic and saute it in a little bit of Olive Oil for a couple of minutes. You can put as much or as little garlic as you want, I happen to love garlic and so do Jeffrey and William so the more the merrier around here. Be careful not to let the garlic burn because it can get away from you quickly.
2. Once your garlic is smelling delicious, add in 1/2 lb. ground pork and 1/2 lb. ground mild Italian sausage. We don’t eat much beef around our house, so we prefer pork, but you can choose whatever ground meat suits your fancy ๐ However, I did try to make this with ground chicken once and it DID NOT work out well at all.
3. While the meat is browning, put a pot of salted water on to boil for your pasta, and pull out your remaining ingredients.
NOTE: the beer is not for the spaghetti ๐ it is purely for enjoyment while cooking dinner
4. Once the meat is fully cooked like this…
add in two 7oz. cans of tomato sauce and one 14.5oz. can of diced tomatoes. I like to use Hunts with the added basil, garlic, and oregano because it gives it an extra little bump of flavor.
5. Finally add in about 1/4C dried parsley, 1tsp. oregano, and 1 bay leaf. Give it a good stir and bring to a boil; once it boils lower the heat and let is simmer for about 15-30 minutes.
Yummy! |
Its really doesn’t matter how long you let it simmer for, the longer is simmers the more its flavors develop. Sometimes I let mine simmer for 30 minutes, and other times I serve it right after adding in the spices. It is all up to your time frame ๐
Drain your pasta.
Put it in a bowl and top with cheese ๐
Add some spaghetti sauce and of course more cheese. Finally, enjoy the deliciousness!
This is a great family meal because it makes a large portion in a short amount of time. It even freezes well, so if you want to double the recipe and then freeze it for later you can; I have done it on several occasions.
This spaghetti recipe has become a regular in our weekly dinner rotation, and I hope you enjoy it enough that it becomes a regular in yours too!
