#SewMyStyle2018 – Kalle Tunic

The March #SewMyStyle2018 pattern was the Kalle Shirt and Shirtdress by Closet Case Patterns. I’ve had my eye on this pattern for a while and I was excited to finally make it. For my first attempt I used a lightweight cotton fabric from my stash and the cropped version of the pattern. The pattern is very well written and there is a sew along on the Closet Case Patterns website that is very useful! I found a new way to do collars and I’ve excited to use that trick on other shirts.

One thing I discovered is that I do not like cropped style shirts on me. I like this shirt and I want it to work, but it hits right at the biggest part of my mom belly and I feel like it accentuates it, especially from my profile. Plus the fabric I used for this version is very thin, so that combined with my lack of truly high waisted pants, meant I needed to wear a tank top to go out in public. When I make this pattern again I am going to make the dress version. I think it will suit my body type better, plus I love a good shirt dress.

Even though it didn’t work out perfectly, overall I am still glad that I made this shirt. Part of my goal of participating in Sew My Style is finding clothes that work for me and my had two kids body shape. Even though this isn’t my best look, it beats yoga pants and a t-shirt any day of the week. 🙂
